Yaffed is a nonprofit organization committed to improving secular education in Hasidic and Haredi schools. Its mission is accomplished through advocacy work to change government policy, building grassroots and community-based support for educational change, and employing consistent and persistent awareness campaigns in the media. The Executive Director leads the effort in all aspects of the mission.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and has overall strategic and operational responsibility for Yaffed’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. She or he will initially develop deep knowledge of the field, core programs, operations, and business plans. The expectation is that the Executive Director will spearhead the strategic plan developed by the Director, the staff, and the Board, as the landscape of substantial equivalent education changes over time.


Program Advocacy & New Strategy:
● Build partnerships within the educational and Jewish communities and establish relationships with funders, and political and community leaders.
● Develop and grow future programs supporting educational excellence in the Hasidic and Haredi communities.
● Develop and nurture relationships with key government officials and policy makers in the educational substantial equivalency space.
● Support various and encourage legal efforts to ensure a substantially equivalent education in all private schools.

Leadership & Management:
● Actively engage and energize Yaffed’s volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders.
● Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with various strategic efforts.
● Recruit, lead, coach, develop, and retain Yaffed’s devoted staff.
● Maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere within the Yaffed office while encouraging top performance and advancement.
● Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
● Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate advocacy components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.

Fundraising & Communications:
● Expand fundraising activities to support existing organizational operations and new programmatic efforts such as scholarships and general education consulting.
● Manage, deepen and refine all aspects of communications and branding.
● Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
● Manage marketing and communications consultants; and setting of annual fundraising goals.

The ED will be thoroughly committed to Yaffed’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include:
● At least 5 years of senior management experience; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
● Familiarity with the Hasidic/Haredi world.
● Fluency in Yiddish is a plus.
● Experience with New York City and New York State agencies, agency officials, legislators and their staff, especially as relates to education.
● Experience or familiarity with interacting with education policymakers, academics, institutions, and community stakeholders.
● Experience or familiarity interacting with political press and political campaigns.
● Experience reporting to and working with a non-profit Board of Directors, especially with regard to reporting and strategic planning.
● Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
● Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
● Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
● Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
● Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
