YAFFED (Young Advocates for Fair Education) believes every child has the right to a quality education and works to ensure that Haredi and Hasidic Yeshivas in New York deliver a sound basic education to their students.

Position Summary
YAFFED seeks a proactive, compassionate, and dedicated Educational Advocate to serve as a vital bridge between Hasidic and Haredi families and educational resources.This position requires a bilingual (Yiddish and English speaking) professional who can provide culturally sensitive support, guidance, and advocacy services to parents navigating the educational system for their children and young adults navigating the system for themselves

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities. The candidate must be able to work independently and have access to a reliable internet connection. The position will require developing networks and contacts within the Hasidic community and among people that provide education services (after school programs, tutoring services, college counseling, yeshiva admissions, etc) and family supports in order to both develop a client base and knowledge of the program within the community, as well as a resource base in order to support clients. This position will require a considerable amount of independent organization and thought from a self directed individual who is inspired by the mission and has a desire to help individuals attain their educational goals.

This is a mostly remote (NY area) position that reports directly to the Director of Policy and Advocacy with occasional attendance at in-person meetings. The role is part-time 20 – 25 hrs/per week at salary of $35/hour.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to newsline calls and provide timely, accurate information about educational matters
Maintain open lines of communication with families throughout this process
Facilitate communication between parents and educational institutions
Connect families with appropriate educational resources, including free tutoring services, and online learning platforms
Educate parents on educational standards and what quality education their children should be receiving
Assist families in understanding their rights and options within the educational system
Manage individual family cases from initial contact through resolution
Provide crisis intervention services when families face urgent educational challenges
Develop and implement action plans tailored to each family’s specific needs
Maintain detailed case records and track progress toward educational goals
Demonstrate deep familiarity with the yeshiva educational landscape and community structures
Provide culturally sensitive services that respect community values and traditions
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the educational community

Qualifications

Fluency in both Yiddish and English (speaking, reading, and writing)
Extensive knowledge of yeshiva educational systems and community dynamics
Experience in case management and client services
Crisis intervention training or experience preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously
Computer literacy and familiarity with educational technology platforms
Empathy and patience when working with families in challenging situations
Commitment to educational equity and access
Flexible schedule to accommodate family needs
Strong organizational and time management skills
